Inflation in Italy recorded the highest level since 1996 in January

In January 2022 inflation in Italy was up 1.6% on monthly basis and up 4.8% on annual basis (from +3.9% in December), according to Istat.

The speed-up of the growth on annual basis was mainly due to the prices of Energy (from +29.1% in December to +38.6%).

Regulated energy products registered an even bigger increase (from +41.9% to +94.6%).

The annual rate of change of prices of Goods was +7.0% (from +5.5% in December) and that of prices of Services was +1.8% (from +1.7% in the previous month).

Prices of Grocery and unprocessed food increased by 1.4% on monthly basis and by 3.2% on annual basis (up from +2.4% in the previous month).
