Hungary construction volume decreased by 3.4% in March

The volume of construction output, based on raw data, was 3.4% lower in March 2020 than a year earlier, Hungarian Central Statistical Office latest data show.

Output of the two main groups of construction developed inversely: in the construction of buildings it grew by 0.3%, in civil engineering works went down by 10.0%.

Based on seasonally and working day adjusted indices construction output lessened by 5.2% compared to the February data. In the 1st quarter construction producer prices increased by 8.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.

In March 2020, compared to the same month of the previous year

The output of the two main groups of construction developed inversely: in the construction of buildings it rose by 0.3%, in civil engineering decreased by 10.0% compared to the high base of the previous year.

Out of the divisions of construction, output volume went down by 4.0% in the construction of buildings and by 13.7% in civil engineering while specialised construction activities were higher by 2.6% year-on-year.

The volume of new contracts decreased by 9.9%, within it the volume of new contracts concluded for the construction of buildings was 31.4% lower, the volume for civil engineering works was 18.9% higher than one year earlier.

The volume of the February end-of –month stock of contracts at construction enterprises was 16.3% lower than at the end of March 2019. The volume of contracts increased by 2.7% for the construction of buildings and decreased by 24.4% for civil engineering works.
